Sri. P K CHATHAN MASTER

Shri. P.K.Chathan Master, renowned Communist leader and the first Minister for Local Self Government and Harijan Welfare of the State of Kerala, was born as the son of Shri.Kavalan in 1920.
A former president of Porathissery Panchayat, he had also been elected to the Travancore-Cochin Legislative Assembly in 1954 previously.
Shri. Chathan Master was elected to the first KLA from Chalakkudy Reserved Constituency as a Communist party Member. In the First EMS Ministry he was Minister for Local Self Government and Harijan Welfare and he handled that portfolio from 5-4-1957 to 31-7-1959. He was Member in the 4th and 5th KLA too, representing Kilimanoor constituency.
From 1974 to 1976 he served as the Chairman of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. During a long span of public life he had also served as the Vice Chairman of the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board and President of the Kerala Pulayar Mahasabha.
His wife is Smt. Kali and they have three sons and one daughter.
Shri. Chathan Master expired at the age of 68 on 22.4.1988. The Assembly paid its homage to him on 25.4.1988
